MishaMcD, Misha, the link isn't working. I can't add a work to Friday's flash mob using it. My time hasn't expired yet, meaning I added my last work on Wednesday. Previously, I had 48 hours until a new work could be added unless I scored 9 points, but now it's more like -72 hours. The stakes are rising. Everyone is being trolled in their own way. What harsh conditions, as if I just showed up here yesterday and my works are completely pointless... and somehow my time increases each time.
Bluejay, that's the wrong link. Working link under Pieter Gynt's poster in the comments.
P Laura, Thanks, I found it already. If you don't know exactly where to look, you won't find it right away. I can't read all the comments all the time. We should either send out a mass mailing of the thread and a link to the available event, or post the information on a bulletin board, which doesn't exist.
Moderation is sorely lacking here... Today I decided to log into a social network... People are exchanging photos of their children and pets with accompanying mundane conversations
... If only... There are no moderators here. There really isn't enough moderation here... Today I decided to log on to social media... people are exchanging photos of their children and pets with accompanying mundane conversations.
Irinny, believe me, this isn't the worst thing that could happen
... If only... There are no moderators here. Moderation is sorely lacking here... Today I decided to log on to a social network... people are exchanging photos of children and pets with accompanying everyday conversations.
Irinny, I partially agree; constructive criticism is needed, but within reasonable ethical limits, without infringing on the dignity of any author as an individual. But here on the site this week, I observed a process where this constructive criticism escalated into very harsh criticism, so much so that it was a complete disaster. In the end, everyone remained the same, and the most "harsh comments" were deleted by the administration for their objective/subjective reasons... In the end, it was just a waste of time on both sides... and a way to let off steam... Maybe it would be better to go take some pictures at this time?
... If only... There are no moderators here. Moderation is sorely lacking here... Today I decided to log on to social media... people are exchanging photos of children and pets with accompanying everyday conversations.
Irinny, Maybe there really is a lack of moderation here.
But! Friday is the only day (as I see it) when any author can confidently post their photo without fear of immediate criticism. A kind of hippie day. Let's consider it a modern-day "Alexandria," "Ispahan," "Baghdad," or "Jerusalem." Can we even imagine for one day that there is a concept: different faiths in one house?
All the other days - as many as you like. True, most of the authors from the old crowd pop in for a moment, post their photos, disown their friends, and leave. That's all) the old clip is gone(

Pieter Gynt, And I can't add anyone as a friend here. A message pops up saying that the author has already reached their limit of 10 friends. There are some strange restrictions on this site in everything, hardly justified. Then all that's left is to live here "From Friday to Friday." Apparently, the authors of the old style consider themselves elite and don't want to condescend to everyone else.
Bluejay, I'm having the same problem with adding friends. Pieter Gynt and altimona, I tried adding you and got the same message about 10 friends.
P Laura, I also wanted to add some, but I can't. I'm also confused that I can't have more than 20 photos in my favorites. So, I have to change them all the time and just delete old good works of others that I liked? That shouldn't be the case. Does the site have limited server capacity?
True, most of the authors from the old crowd come in for a moment, post their photos, disown their friends and leave. That's all) the old clip is gone ( and why?
Irinny, Because everything flows..... You know, there's been a lot of talk about this on this site and others, even those not dedicated to photography... I'll go global. Any site eventually reaches a point of least interest. This applies to everything... There is no perpetual motion machine. Especially in human perception... The threshold of "pleasure" is constantly rising... It's not for nothing that the Chinese banned entertainment programs on TV for, I don't remember, I think, 4-6 hours a day, so as not to raise the threshold... Another question is what those who know, have seen, heard, etc., want... Which path do they choose? Christians destroyed and burned the heart of humanity – the Alexandrian Library. How many centuries did it take to prove again that the earth is round and spins? Ibn Sina in the 11th century He proved that the plague was transmitted by "rat" fleas, and six centuries later, London was practically suffocated by the plague because all the cats and dogs were killed, believing they were carriers of the disease... What I'm getting at... You know when it's scary?! When even social media isn't interesting!
Bluejay, Such questions aren't for me. I don't know what the authors are thinking. Maybe they don't even realize you're trying to add....
Pieter Gynt, Most likely. Another thing that confuses me is that there's no internal communication here. I can't message anyone personally or ask a question about anything related to photography, etc. So I have to ask for your email address. Or maybe someone doesn't want to share so as not to overload their inbox and wants to answer everything right here. So, it turns out I have to post any question in any comment, and everyone reads it. You never know what the question might be about photography, processing, or photo courses, contests, etc. As a result, many don't respond adequately to certain questions or requests and react inappropriately, and next time they don't even want to ask anything, or even criticize or communicate about photos.
Pieter Gynt, I know many people, even those very close to the arts, who manage without social media, or use only a minimal amount, and only very narrowly targeted networks based on their interests or necessary for promoting their art business or advertising. They simply know what they want and how to use it to their advantage. And they're quite decent people; they don't step over others' corpses and don't harm anyone. I don't think everyone is capable of that.
Mono, Who is this message addressed to again? Honestly, no offense. Maybe I'm cut from a different cloth. I'll understand when a farmer who's spent a year investing money and labor in his ten-hectare garden and then suddenly gets hail during flowering... I'll understand when he sits down and never gets up again. (( But honestly, I'm tired of hearing from the members of this site that everything is bad.... This is the only BELARUSIAN site. Your site! And you've abandoned it... Who should the questions be addressed to then!
Such a hippie day. Every day here. Mono, Again, who is this message addressed to? Honestly, no offense. Maybe I'm cut from a different cloth. Pieter Gynt, There are a lot of people here from all over the world, not just Russian-speaking, and I'm here because there are so many strong authors and interesting works.
You know when it's scary?! When even social media isn't interesting!
It's not scary, the main thing is to enjoy real life
It's bad when you feel like you're outgrowing the site and it's becoming boring and predictable. It's boring tilting at windmills, boring sifting through dozens of photos a day looking for interesting ones... everyone's their own moderator... What's needed here is change, experimentation, an art council, new buttons, etc. ... but everyone's still floundering in the same swamp...
Irinny, Over the past year, I've looked through a lot of photos by authors living in your country. It's 2014. Only a few of them even try to make any sense here. Buttons) moderators) changes) They won't solve anything. Only authors!!! When authors return, buttons won't be needed. There will be discussions, and interest in photography... Without authors... Nothing will work...

Irinny, I agree. I exhibit on several photo resources. So, on one not-so-high-level photo site, there are many strong and original authors, and it's interesting to communicate with them and, so to speak, be inspired and learn from them. Many such authors can be found, for example, on 36photo.ru, with very strong works. But they said they find it boring there, that everything is too glamorous, dead, and pompous, and that everyone there thinks they're geniuses and prefers lower-quality, almost amateurish photo shoots. They justify this by saying they feel more comfortable there, that there's unbiased criticism from a live, non-glamorous audience, as well as communication. Isn't that a paradox?
It's bad when you feel like you're outgrowing the site and it's becoming boring and predictable..
Irinny, I was writing to you about this very fear, because any site, in the abstract, is a social network... (there's no argument here, since professional sites are officially classified as social networks). And I wrote about the second... Where's the guarantee that your "outgrowing" is truly outgrowing? I'm not spamming anymore. I like you, and I'm sorry you don't want to be more Don Quixote on your site.) Bluejay, Of course, there are many very interesting authors here. I agree. I just don't agree with the constant description of "swamp."
Only authors!!! When authors return, buttons won't be needed. What do you think needs to be done to bring authors back or bring in new, interesting ones?
Irinny, Those authors have probably exhausted themselves here or reached new heights. I think there are enough authors here, as well as interesting works. And if it's become uncomfortable here, then we need to look for other opportunities and places for self-realization and communication.
Marina Glebova, It's bad when a discussion devolves into bullying or personal attacks, no matter who's behind it or how it's coming from. I wrote to Allokha, and I meant that he's the one who's suffering from this, not you, Marina, in that situation. I stopped liking him a long time ago, and I hope you can remember why.
Marina, forgive me, but what makes you think this was said against you? I understand the author was speaking for the sake of Alloha... The internet, after all, any misunderstanding threatens offense and rejection. Marina, forgive me, this wasn't said against you.
Irinny, is it really bad to outgrow something? It means there was growth and development. You've grown, so help others open their eyes—then it won't be boring.
And most importantly, in my opinion, don't "pick" the eyes of the now "blind," but simply give, then it will become a pleasure—ask blood donors.
Not everyone is capable of the difficult work of teaching; not everyone is a Don Quixote.
And not everyone is capable of learning and is well-mannered.
Everyone is given their own unique set of abilities and senses— there's no need to force knowledge and "vision" onto them.
Any community, including a virtual one, is built on the principle of a large house with many different residents. Some clean up, others... :curvesmile . Some are looking for a better and more beautiful house, while others consider it their "home" and fix the plumbing or the roof. For interesting authors to return, you don't need to do anything special, except create an interesting life for yourself.
Mono, don't you agree?
Pieter Gynt, I agree with everything you've said! Just reveal a terrible secret: what do you find so interesting in your opponent's statements that you regularly engage in "conversations" with them? And such that your words are deleted by the administration?
Atlas, you've surely read Everett Shostrom's Anti-Carnegie. Then you know that manipulators and actualizers will never be "happy together"(c)
What do you think needs to be done to get the authors back?
I've only left the first part of the question, the answer to which is known. NOTHING. A simple example. One of the oldest websites today is PhotoLine. For a time, it competed with Photosight. PhotoLine's heyday lasted from 2002 to 2009. Then came a sharp, catastrophic decline in both the quality of its photography and the level of discussion. Or rather, the latter is nonexistent. On the one hand, photographers' dreams have come true – no one criticizes them, and their photos "speak for themselves." It's a relief. But on the other hand, they realize the futility of what they do. Everything comes at a price. :-) Now PhotoLine is no different from your Belarusian website. It's dead, although a small group of people still exists and contribute something. Even those who were at the core of the photoline, like Mikhail Geller, aren't planning on returning. And on Facebook, I came across his caustic comment about the site's current look and content. We're seeing a slump in the number of authors, even in Facebook groups created around common interests—street photography, metaphysics, and so on—membership is declining. In five years, centripetal forces might reign supreme again, but that's not a given. So, prepare for loneliness. :-) When anyone who gives you a plus or minus will be a joy. Just like Pushkin, actually. "A neighbor who wandered in unexpectedly caught my soul in the corner, a tragedy in its folds" (c) :-) Russian-speaking photographers can't understand that without an audience, they have no name and are called nobody. On that optimistic note, I'll end. :-)
Even those who stood at the forefront of the photo line, like Mikhail Geller, aren't planning on returning.
But they went somewhere, right? So, somewhere, there are places? What are they like? Disappeared into social media? After all, a photographer can't help but show their photos and receive some kind of reaction to their work. In that case, they'll stop taking photos.
Irinny, It was very convenient to switch to Facebook and set it to "only accessible to friends" in the settings. It filters out those who are talked about inappropriately. That's one thing.
Secondly, some people have moved to Western sites. The reasons vary. Some hope to gain exposure there and thereby advance their careers. Others, having changed their nickname, simply moved there because their photos are radically different from ours. (We're talking about those sites or groups where you have to pass a selection process—show a couple of photos, and then the admin decides whether to let you in or not.)
A photographer can't help but show their photos and receive some kind of reaction to their work... in that case, they'll stop taking photographs.
This is true when the photographer considers themselves the sole creator, the ultimate authority. This is, as a rule, the Western view of creativity. However, there is another approach to photography, when the photographer considers himself a filter, a retransmitter, something through which existence reveals itself. Heidegger discussed this at length. We have such photographers—I could easily name a dozen. And also... sometimes the absence of a viewer is better than none at all. Remember Pushkin; in his final years, he wrote only for himself, believing there was no reader for his books.
